Solar Powered Lighting

THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Solar Powered Lighting - A layman's guide.

What is it?

Solar powered lighting systems gather energy from the sun in the daytime to run electric lights during the night time - simple!

How does it work?

A solar panel converts the energy from the sun into electricity which is used to charge a battery. The battery stores the energy until it is required to make a light come on. See the simplified diagram below.

How can I use Solar Powered Lighting?

Ther are many different types of solar powered lighting ranging from "stick in the ground" solar garden lights to systems powering lights in large buildings.

The main types of system can be summarised as follows :

Solar Garden Lights

Description : small lights, often designed to be pushed directly into soft ground.

Uses : perfect for lighting footpaths, steps, gateways, garden features etc where mains powered electrical fittings would be expensive, inpractical or dangerous to install.

DIY Solar Lighting Systems

Description : DIY solar kits for providing light in remote buildings with no mains power connection.
