SolarMate 2 is a DIY solar lighting kit in a box! Where quality light is needed in remote locations but no mains power exists, SolarMate is the answer. This is a really practical product making good use of renewable energy.

Extend your use of remote buildings such as sheds, stables, summer houses, garden offices, garages, barns, etc. Great for the kid's garden play house as well - let them experience the excitement of having their own little house with a SolarMate 12 V lighting system.

As a guide, this kit will illuminate approximately 32 square meters.

Its simple and safe to install, taking around 1 and 1/2 hours with no special tools required.

The SolarMate II kit contains :

• 1 x 10 Watt crystalline solar panel
• 1 x Roof/wall fixing kit
• 2 x 12 volt 9W (40W equivalent) energy saving bulbs and ceiling/wall holders
• 1 x wall switch
• 1 x 7m cable roll
• all neccessary connectors and fuses etc
• Detailed fitting and use instructions

Battery

The kit does not come with a battery. You will need to provide a 75 or 85Ah 12V caravan/electric fencing/leisure battery. 

Any old car battery will work provided it will hold a charge (fully charge it before using with your SolarMate kit), however, to get the best results we suggest you buy a new leisure battery - they are readily available and typically cost £30 to £40 for a suitable one. We can supply high quality deep cycle batteries ideal for off grid solar installation although these are more expensive than ordinary leisure batteries.

Other Stuff :

• The kit has a 10 year manufacture warranty (excludes the bulb)
• The bulb has a 3000 hour life cycle
• The solar panel has a 35 year life expectancy

Expected Performance :

Performance is obviously dependent on sunshine! Assuming a healthy battery, based on past average UK monthly sunshine hours you can (realistically) expect the following : 

Mid Summer (Jun & Jul) : Both lights powered for approx. 4 hours per day

Mid Winter (Darkest months of Jan & Dec) : Both lights powered for approx. 0.6 hours (35 minutes) per day

If the solar powered lights are not used every day the run times can be increased: double the run times above if used every other day, x 7 if used once a week.

Likewise, if only one of the two lights is used, average daily run times can be doubled.

If the lights are to be used very occasionally, as a guide the two lights can be run from a fully charged 85Ah battery for approx 30 hours continuously without damaging the battery (i.e approx. 50% discharge).

January and December are the darkest months and the amount of energy available to power the light in these two months will be at it's lowest. As the day length increases and weather improves, run times will increase.
