PRINCE CHARLES' START INITIATIVEWelcome to the Ecofreak Eco Blog. A unique take on green goings on from around the world as well as snippets of Ecofreak news, information on eco products and anything else that catches Ecofreak's eye!2nd August 2010 Start is a new initiative to help people across the UK lead more sustainable lives and to show what a more energy efficient, cleaner and healthier future could look like.Start is an exciting new national initiative launched by The Prince's Charities Foundation to promote and celebrate sustainable living. Somehow I missed the launch of the Start initiative earlier this year and only became aware of it when flicking through my Saturday paper over the weekend (so much for having my finger on the eco pulse.. ha!). If like me you were unaware of Start then I suggest you sign up at the Start website and take a look at their video ; it's a simple and inspiring message. What an excellent scheme and great website. What I love about Start is it is trying to clear the mirky environmental waters by making it easy for everybody to take positive and practical steps to a better future. HRH The Prince of Wales has for been a supporter of sustainable living for many years and he believes it is essential and urgent that the peoples of the world adapt their behavior to mitigate the effects of climate change. Start's website breaks has practical articles/guides under five main headings of : Each section has clear and simple ideas that will help everyone to start making a difference. Start's objective is to present an inspiring picture of a sustainable future. They aim to achieve this by highlighting the very best examples of sustainable practice in the UK, and showing how we can all make positive changes right now. By concentrating on the positive things we can all do I think Start has got it dead right. What really strikes me is that the positives reach beyond the environment as well - I think there are real benefits here for all of us that will improve our lives as individuals, whether it's eating tasty home grown veg , having fun eco camping in our fabulous countryside or greening up your exercise routine. By moving the focus from what we shouldn't be doing to the best we can be doing, Start emphasises that we shouldn't only be stopping, but also starting. Keep Start on your radar, I think you will be seeing and hearing more in the media as their initiative gathers pace. If you can get a long to "A Garden Party to Make a Difference" hosted by his HRH the Prince of Wales at his own gardens at Clarence House, together with his neighbours’ gardens at Lancaster House and Marlborough House this September. More details available via the Start website. It certainly made me feel like starting a few new eco projects myself both here at Ecofreak HQ and back at home... I'll keep you informed! |
